Breaking Free from the Feature Trap: A Continuous ChallengeAI

Eighty percent of my last week was dedicated to Haushelden. I devised a strategy to avoid falling into the trap I often preach against: the endless cycle of feature building. Even though I know as a coach how easy it is to get caught in this vortex, I found myself right there. It starts with one feature, then you gather feedback, and suddenly the pull drags you deeper and deeper.

This cycle is tempting. You build a feature, roll it out, gather feedback, and realize it doesn't work as hoped. Bugs appear that you hadn't seen before. Users get frustrated, and you find yourself even deeper in the feature carousel. But this time, I want to find a way out.

The Bet: Changing Focus and Environment

I've committed to setting my focus clearly. What is the goal? What makes the difference? Only when these questions are answered can I fully concentrate on them. But that's easier said than done when the temptation to develop new features is strong.

Another approach is to change the environment. Working in a coworking space or a friend's office can help break out of old thought patterns. But even that has its pitfalls – changing the environment isn't always the solution to everything.

Where It Stalls: Feedback and Bugs

User feedback is essential, but it often leads to more bugs surfacing. These flawed products frustrate users, and the spiral continues. Here's the real issue: Feature building doesn't automatically solve user problems.

It's simple to follow the urge to build more. But without clear goal setting and focus, you end up in an endless loop. I've experienced this myself and am determined to break the pattern.

Empathy for Users

The solution lies in empathy. Users should set the course. Only then can something emerge that leads to revenue and not just the desire for more features. This requires a high degree of empathy and the ability to distinguish between genuine user needs and superficial requests.

I know the problem from my experience with Scrum and agility. Stakeholders always have urgent concerns that need immediate attention. But as a tech founder, you have to set your own priorities and not give in to every urge.

The Next Move: Setting Priorities

Now that the summer holidays in Bavaria are ending, things are getting exciting. Schools and institutions will be reachable again, opening up new opportunities for Haushelden. I'm curious to see if our efforts will bear fruit and what awaits us.

What Remains Open: The Tension Rises

There are many unknowns. Will the schools and institutions join in? Are the wheels turning too slowly? I don't know, and that's what makes it exciting. It's a game with many variables, and the curiosity about how it will turn out drives me.

What do you think, how will it continue? Have you had experiences with feature building and user integration? Feel free to share – I'm eager to hear your perspective.
